The acclaimed artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude proposed Over The River™, a temporary work of art on Colorado’s Arkansas River. The project site lay between Salida and Cañon City, Colorado.
The artists retained Kaplan Kirsch to help them obtain federal, state, and local permits for the project. Our attorneys guided them through the first Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) ever prepared for a work of art. We also negotiated private contracts, leases, and licenses for the project. We successfully defended litigation over the project’s permit. In 2017, the artists cancelled the project.
