On March 7, 2011, the FAA announced its second extension of the comment period on a proposed rule to require all certificated airports to develop and implement a Safety Management System.  The FAA allowed the submission of “clarifying questions” on the proposed rule by April 6, 2011, and extended the comment period until July 5, 2011.  Comments may be submitted at www.regulations.gov (Docket No. FAA-2010-0997).  For questions about this and related FAA SMS initiatives, please contact Peter Kirsch.
