On August 24, 2012, the FAA issued an internal memorandum containing interim guidance on mineral extraction on and around airports (oil, gas, coal, shale).  The interim guidance contains procedural requirements for the review of mineral extraction proposals, but no new substantive standards.  The FAA also indicated that it is working on an advisory circular on the subject, to be released in draft form for public comment.
