On September 9, 2010, the Federal Aviation Administration published notice of its intent to amend Grant Assurance 5 and FAA policy on access to federally-obligated airports from adjacent residential property. In short, the revised policy would allow airports to continue to permit access where access rights previously had been conveyed, but would prohibit new residential through-the-fence access. Airports with existing residential through-the-fence access would be required to depict the access point on the Airport Layout Plan and satisfy other standards for use of the airport. Comments are due on or before October 25, 2010.
