Nate counsels clients in permitting, regulatory compliance, and litigation under a broad range of environmental and administrative laws, including litigating in state and federal courts across the country. He has extensive experience in federal environmental litigation regarding the Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and Endangered Species Act (ESA), as well as other federal regulatory statutes, including the Federal Land Policy and Management Act and Interstate Commerce Commission Termination Act. Nate also regularly counsels municipalities in obtaining and defending regulatory authorizations and environmental permits.
Among his cases, Nate is currently representing Eagle County, Colorado at the U.S. Supreme Court in defending an appellate court decision vacating the Surface Board of Transportation’s authorization of the Uinta Basin Railway in Utah under NEPA and Interstate Commerce Commission Termination Act.
Prior to joining the Firm, Nate served as a senior attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center where his practice focused on litigation involving challenges federal and state permits and citizen suits based on violations of the Clean Water Act, NEPA, ESA, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and other environmental laws.
